Lynn Coleman’s focus throughout her legal career has been to help clients solve problems. Whether it’s a dispute with a competitor or business partner or the best way to deal with governmental or other regulations, options are often available which are not immediately recognized by a client in the middle of a crisis. Lynn’s penchant for exploring alternate solutions and presenting a client with the realities associated with various choices helps obtain the best possible result for each client. The use of technology to ease the communication process means that often clients can get quick answers to simple questions without the need to visit the office or take time away from their own business.

Education & History

A life-long North Carolinian, Lynn received her BS/BA from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1977 and her Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law in 1980. While at Campbell Law, Lynn was on Law Review as Notes and Comments Editor and received the Book Award in Constitutional Law. After law school, she served as Clerk/Research Assistant for Judge Gerald Arnold on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She practiced law in Onslow County from 1981 until 2005 when she became assistant city attorney with the City of Wilmington. In 2012 Lynn opened Coleman Legal, PLLC in Cary, NC where she focuses her professional efforts on business law issues, contracts, real estate transactions, governmental compliance, and employment law.

Professional Experience

Lynn has argued cases before the North Carolina Supreme Court and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Significant cases include corporate dissolutions before the North Carolina Business Court, defense of constitutionality of city ordinances relating to zoning matters before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, arguments defending challenges to the constitutionality of city loitering ordinances, eminent domain cases, foreclosure defense, annexation and voting rights.

Admissions & Memberships

Lynn was licensed to practice law in North Carolina by the State Bar in 1980. In 1982 She was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Lynn was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1982. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, a voluntary group who strive to improve legal services to citizens of the state. As a member of the Tenth Judicial District Bar which covers Raleigh and Wake County since 2012, Lynn is familiar with local courts including the North Carolina Business Court, Wake County Superior Court and Wake County District Court. She also handles cases in Lee County, Johnston County, Harnett County, Halifax County, Cumberland County, Mecklenburg County, Onslow County, Duplin County and New Hanover County. Lynn is a member of the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists with Relativity experience as well as project manager experience while with the City of Wilmington.

Personal Notes

Non-work hours find Lynn working in her vegetable garden, hitting tennis balls, swimming, kayaking, volunteering with animals or watching/reading British murder mysteries. She also volunteers with several community organizations and bar sponsored activities aimed at providing legal advice outside the traditional attorney-client relationship.
